The Directors of the Monument Association in Session.
Richmond, Va., Dec. 9.—A meeting of the board of directors of the Jefferson Davis Monumental Association, and a number of other gentlemen called into consultation with them, was held to-night to discuss ways and means of raising the monument fund.
President J. Taylor Ellyson explained the object of the meeting, and, after a full comparison of views, it was recommended that as a means of securing subscriptions to the monument fund, a sketch of the proposed monument should be printed, and that the association should select an artist to make a design for this purpose.
The sentiment of the conference was against having an equestrian statue and asking competitive designs, the general opinion being that it would be better to select an artist, and let him work out his design in consultation with the board of directors.
It was further recommended that a committee be appointed by the chair to work out several suggestions that were made toward raising a large subscription from the people of this city. The president appointed J. B. Purcell, P. H. Mayc. and J. N. Boyd, who will report to the board, and another conference will be held hereafter.
