Extra of a letter to the editor. dated, Trenton, Nov. 25, 1802.

"This afternoon, at 3 o'clock, a joint meeting of the two houses of the legislature took place in the assembly room.— For the office of governor three candidates were in nomination, viz :-
Joseph Bloomfield,
Richard Stockton,
Esquires.
Aaron Ogden,

"On the first trial an equal number of votes were given for Mr. Bloomfield and Mr. Stockton; on a second attempt, the votes were equally divided between Mr. Bloomfield and Mr. Ogden. Finding no probability of accomplishing the choice of a governor, the joint meeting agreed to relinquish the object. The vice-president still holds, and probably will continue during the year to hold, the office and attributes of governor.

"The joint meeting next proceeded to the appointment of a clerk of the supreme court. Mr. Linn and Col. Rhea were candidates-the latter was elected -33 to 19.

"The joint meeting next proceeded to the appointment of a treasurer-- James Saltar was unanimously re-elected.

"The appointment of clerk of the county of Essex was postponed, (by the casting vote of Dr. Scudder,) on the plea urged by Mr. Frelinghuysen, that the law of the last legislature which took the clerk's office from -Col. Ogden, was unconstitutional, and that no appointment ought to be made under it until the supreme court, before whom the question now is, should decide on its constitutionality."
