Redevelopment (continued from page 6)

People will begin looking and it will be more difficult. "With five children", she said, "we can't even think of a rent."

Mr. and Mrs. Amadeu Marques have owned their three family house at 685 Main Street for 20 years, and have run the family grocery business downstairs for nearly 15 years. Mrs. Marques said "We have heard rumors of this for 14 years, but when it happens it's a different story. We're not happy about it. We are content here. My husband has already accepted another job."

Like others, her main source of concern was in not really knowing what is to happen next. And waiting.

Long-time residents like Mr. and Mrs. Charles Toce, who have lived in their house on Blinn Street for 42 years, took the news hard. They have not as yet decided what to do.

The process is slow. The highway department first sends out its notices. Then come two appraisers, at different times, the value they determine going to the highway department. The department using these two figures as a minimum and maximum price range in dealing with the owner.

When an agreement is reached then the process ends, but for those families who have to uproot themselves after having lived in their own home for these many years, the ending isn't a happy one.
