This Sunday is the 11th Sunday after Pentecost. The Epistle is found in I Corinthians 15:1-10. The Holy Gospel St. Mark 7:31-37.
Tuesday was a Holy day of obligation and Mass was offered up at 6 and 9 a.m., by Father Daly. Last Sunday the Summer School exhibit and dinner was quite a success. Father Daly wishes to thank each and everyone for their co-operation in making the Summer School dinner and exhibit a success. Father Daly received an invitation to attend the 9th Annual Convention of National Catholic Interracial Federation to be held in Cleveland, Ohio, September 2, 3, and 4. The first day will be devoted to the Negro Industry and on Monday the theme for discussion will be "What can Catholics do to promote better race relationship?"
Don't forget the Junior Minstrel August 25th, which is only a few days off. Tickets are going very fast. It will be a treat to see Sam Brown dance. A list of the members who contribute to St. Benedict from last February to August has been placed on the bulletin board. Sunday, Aug. 13, Father Daly was called to the hospital at 11 o'clock to anoint Mrs. Lulu Lewis, who passed away at 4:55 Monday morning, August 14. Funeral services were held at St. Benedict at 9 a.m. Father Daly offered up Mass and Father Cassily preached. The church was packed to capacity. The body was laid to rest in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. Mrs. Lewis will surely be missed for she was one of the oldest members of the church, a good worker, and ever willing to serve. Our Master knows best, so all we can do is to try and prepare ourselves to face Him with as good a record as can be.
