Old Mansion—One of the oldest mansions in this city now standing, is No. 1 Broadway, occupied by F. Prime, Esq. It was built by Capt. Kennedy, son of the Earl of Cassilis, on a lot purchased of the Watts family long before the Revolutionary War. When this city was taken possession of by the British army, Sir William Howe made it his head quarters, and it was here that many deep plans were arranged for the destruction of the American army and the capture of Gen. Washington. Subsequently during the war this mansion was occupied by Gen. Sir Henry Clinton and Guy Carleton.

At the evacuation of the city, Capt. Kennedy resumed his possession. He lived in it some years when he delivered it up to Mrs. Loring. Some years afterward Abijah Hammond, Esq., bought it. It was during a series of years occupied by Mr. Bradish, and was some twenty years since sold to Mr. Prime, who enlarged and modernized it. The house is still in the possession of the Prime family.
