The Dayton Empire of Feb. 2d is responsible for the following: "A detachment of the 93d Ohio went out on a foraging expedition, recently, in the neighborhood of Murfreesboro. They met with poor luck owing to the fact that the ground had just been gone over by another detachment, and the boys were very hungry when they "lit down" on the plantation of an old Seceder who had escaped the general tax. While the boys were clearing the barn and barnyard of eatable fixings for "man and boss" Lieutenant E., of Company B. thought he would call in at the house and see what manner of people tenanted it.
"He entered the residence uninvited, and no one greeted him when he made his appearance. The dinner, piping hot, and sending out most savory and inviting odor, was being placed on the table, and as the family sat down without asking him to take a place with them, and he was very hungry, he determined to put on a style of impudence never before attempted by him. There was a vacant place, and he occupied it, helping himself as though at home, and ate a very hearty dinner. The strangest point about this item is, that from the time Lieutenant E. entered the house until he left he did not speak a word to the inmates, or they speak to him!"
