Full Text

Carriere, in a late sitting of the Jacobins, acknowledged that there might still be 20,000 rebels in La Vendee, though scattered over 40 square leagues of ground. This fact, he said, gave him no uneasiness, because he knew that the Convention had 40,000 men in the country, who would soon put the orders of the committee of Public Safety in execution, as his Colleagues, Garrau and Hentz, were full of zeal and activity. But, added he, as long as there is one robber in La Vendee, the conspirators will talk of a Catholic army!
