By a gentleman just arrived in the stage, we are informed, that on the morning of Monday last, several boats from a frigate and tender, then in the Offing, came into Buttermilk Sound, near Darien, and captured the sloop Frederica, belonging to Mr Cooper of St. Simons, but finding she was run ashore by her commander, and the tide ebbing, they left her and went immediately in pursuit of 7 or 8 sail then in sight, from this port bound Southwardly, all of which are said to have been captured. They were loaded with cotton, provisions, &c They also captured the sloop John Allen, Capt. Hussey, from Amelia bound to Charleston, loaded with molasses
Previous to the boats coming on board of the Frederica they were hailed—where these boats were from—was answered, from a frigate and tender in the Offing.
Capt. Poythress, passenger in the John Allen, who arrived in this city an hour since in the stage, states that this may be relied on. The above captures took place on Sunday and Monday last
