Death Benefit Of Local 443 Is Increased
Rise Is From $600 To $750
Vote Assessment To Fight Ruling
Local 443, Bridgeport & New Haven Heavy Hauling Teamsters, this week raised their death benefit from $600 to $750 with the change effective in the near future.
The membership also passed the dollar assessment to raise a fund to fight a recent ruling which makes victims of accidents who sustain a limb injury, ineligible for driving an over-the-road truck.
A member of the Union sustained such an injury prior to the ruling and has since proved to the satisfaction of the State of Connecticut that he was capable of handling an over-the-road truck.
443 is making a test case in behalf of this member, contending first that his injury occurred prior to the ruling, and second, that all chauffeurs who prove they can handle their assignments should be eligible to drive regardless of the condition of their limbs.
