Mrs. Lyndon Johnson, wife of the Vice President, will formally open the eighth annual Azalea Gardens Tour, in Bethesda, on Saturday.
Mrs. Richard Sanger, general chairman of the event, announced that Mrs. Johnson will cut a "ribbon" of azaleas, at ceremonies scheduled for noon on the grounds of the Landon School. The occasion will signal the start of a two-day public showing of the collection of over 15,000 blooming azaleas in the Landon gardens.
Ed Sears, a Landon senior, and president of the student body, will present Mrs. Johnson with a live azalea plant, as a token of her participation in the tour. She will bring with her the two Johnson daughters, who will be squired through the Landon Gardens by members of The Bears, a Landon student club.
The Landon Azalea Gardens Tour is for the benefit of the Landon School Scholarship and Endowment Fund. The grounds will be open from noon until 10 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be special garden lighting during the evening hours. Landon School choral groups will present a brief musical program in the gardens at 8:30 p.m. each evening.
Admission tickets for the Landon Tour are on sale in advance at the Woodward and Lothrop Chevy Chase Store through Friday and at the Landon School Gardens entrance this weekend.
