Temperance Exhibitions—We had a promise some months since from our old friend, Dinneford, that the temperance dramatic company of which he and Mr. Scoville are the managers, would pay a visit to this city, and we are now happy to announce that that promise is redeemed, and the company is now 'holding the mirror up' to those who lift the intoxicating bowl to their lips. This dramatic troupe come as a kind of flying artillery to act as auxiliaries to the regular forces that are stationed in Providence and will be the means of obtaining many new recruits for the standing army of cold water men within our State borders. The first exhibition took place at Brown Hall, on Monday evening last, before an auditory as large as could have been expected from the shortness of the notice, but not sufficiently numerous to fill the room. The first piece was the 'Broken Merchant,' and it was well adapted to expose the fatal effects of drunkenness. There the victims of intemperance stood, or staggered, the living and loathsome personifications of misery and disgrace: there were seen the near connections of the inebriate, grieving, despairing and heart broken, to awaken the kind sympathies of the benevolent: and there were seen the only restoratives—the Pledge, and cold water. How much more impressive are the lessons taught in this way, than by dull and prosy lectures and addresses! There were many strokes of comic business, as well as many wholesome truths in this piece, and the parts were admirably done by the several performers. The female parts were finely sustained by Mrs. Scoville and Mrs. Dinneford in this piece as well as in the 'Spectre Bridegroom' and they were well sustained by the male performers. Both pieces were received with applause, and produced a salutary effect. At the conclusion of the last piece, Mr. Dinneford was enthusiastically called for, and, coming forward, addressed the spectators in a feeling strain, acknowledging the pleasure he felt at the sight of well known faces, and assuring them that he had entered heart and soul into the temperance cause.

Of the performances last evening, which took place after our paper went to press, we are unable to speak. This evening—'bill of fare' is sufficiently attractive to draw forth a large company of visitors, and amongst that, we expect to see a good number of real temperance and total abstinence men, who will prove their sincerity and devotion to the cause in which they are engaged by encouraging these allies in the good work and aiding them in their glorious work of reform.
