PARIS FASHIONS. &c.
The Paris correspondent of the New York Herald writes:
The reign of the crinolines, I am happy to be assured, is drawing to a close. The new mode of salutation—a courtesy as low as that used in the latter days of Louis XVI., and the grace of which is lost in the whalebone hoops of the crinoline—has sounded the knell of this absurd costume. The terrific plumes which are worn on certain full dress bonnets, have a more grotesque and ludicrous effect—but the fashion has been adopted. The ladies are not content with having worn their bonnets on the neck instead of the head, but they are wearing their caps with a bavolet as broad and stiff as that which has been decorating their bonnets. One of the most offensive silks of the season in a moire antique, of which the satin stripes are more than thirty centimetres wide, each of them being edged on either side by a thick plush fringe moving to and fro with every step of the wearer, and completing the illusion of the dress, which is composed of alternate strips of silk and satin sewed together.
