Photo Lab GIs Enter Work in Art Contest
Bradley Field will be represented in the forthcoming exhibitions of the National Army Arts Contest by the works of six of its creative GIs, including an oil painting by Wac Pvt. Sally Andrews.
Outstanding contributors to the Contest were members of the Base Photo Lab, who entered an aggregated total of fourteen photos. Lt. Seymour Label, Base Photo Officer, entered four of his photos taken during the recent blizzard at the Base. Lt. Harry A. Stailey, Assistant Photo Officer, entered two pictures, one taken at Yale University and the other an interesting study of an old-fashioned lantern. Others from the Photo Lab to enter their work were Sgt. Jack Emslie, who entered five excellent studies, including an especially fine portrait of a child; Cpl. Tom Caffrey, who entered two photos, including one of Lt. A. Perlman's dog, "Sad Sack" in the cockpit of a plane, and Pfc. Jack Herdan, whose photo of a Panda is especially interesting.
Pvt. Andrews, who is on duty at the Base File Room, originally entered three oil paintings; however, when she found these were not acceptable since they had been painted before she entered the service, she managed to paint another entitled "WAC Barracks by Moonlight", during a recent three-day pass. Bradley's entries in the contest will be on exhibition at the Springfield Museum in the near future. Watch the BEAM for the date.
