And Zoom Tomorrow

Stock Car Racing resumes after a two-week layoff Sunday at Key West's Stock Island Speedway.

Owners and mechanics have had extra hours to get the speedy cars in top condition. A large crowd is expected for the 8-event program which also will find the new Jalopy class in operation for the first time at the Key West oval.

There will be two, and possibly three races of jalopies.

It is expected that 15 owners will enter cars in the new class which has been opened to the public. Anyone may enter any vehicle. Any person may claim any starter for a small sum provided the car actually starts in a race. With no protests being allowed, a general 'free-for-all' is expected in the jalopy events.

In stock car races, (Bullet) Bob Turner, Sr, the track's leading driver rates as the favorite to cop honors in the 20-lap feature.

His principal opposition figures to come from the Toppino boys. Paul, 2nd leading driver on the circuit, has his No 83 sedan ready to go. George, with a new motor in his No. 82, reports the car in good condition.

Newcomer Don Meadows, 28, with an even dozen years experience driving all types of cars, will make his local debut behind the wheel of 900.

But Matter, inactive in the recent past, returns to competition tomorrow and has his new GMC "Jimmy" ready. Ju Ju Estes hopes to enter a new racer.

The outlook for Sunday's program is bright. It is expected that 20-25 stocks will see action on the card. Leading Miami drivers have been invited to participate.

The first heat gets underway promptly at 2:30 p. m. Sunday afternoon.
