The convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church for the Diocese of Virginia, convened at this place on Wednesday, the 17th instant, and after having disposed of the business before it, adjourned sine die on Saturday last. The utmost harmony and the happiest feeling prevailed throughout the deliberations of the Convention. The Right Reverend Bishops Moore and Meade were present on the occasion, but it was not as full a meeting of the clergy as was expected. The Convention Sermon was preached by the Reverend Edward McGuire, in which the high responsibilities and duties of a pastor of the flock of Christ was exhibited with great force and clearness. The several discourses which followed were marked by plainness and simplicity, not so well calculated perhaps to entertain the fancy as to reach and subdue the heart. If a favorable opinion may be formed from the fixed and solemn attention which pervaded the large congregations in attendance, it is hoped that much good will be the consequence of this delightful meeting. On Sunday four persons were admitted to the order of priests, and one to the order of Deacons; and on Sunday night about 20 persons were confirmed.—The next Convention will be held at Winchester, Va., on the third Wednesday in May next.—Petersburg Intelligencer.
