EXHIBITS AT CORN SHOW MERIT PRIZE
SENIOR AND JUNIOR ENTRIES MANY
Ames, Jan. 15.--The final awards have been made at the corn shows here and the sale held. In the senior show ten ear class. Wm. Wayne of Nashua won sweepstakes in northern section; W. S. Woods of Iowa Falls in north central section; C. O Garrett of Mitchellville in south central section; and Frank Sar of Essex in southern section. The grand champion sweepstakes went to Frank Sar, on the sample that won the Iowa sweepstakes at Omaha. This was one of the best samples that has ever been shown in Iowa.
In the single ear class E. R. Mawdsley of Britt won sweepstakes in northern section: H. N. Woods of Iowa Fall sweepstakes in north central section; E. L. Pearson of Mitchellville in south central section and L. O. Wise of Red Oak sweepstakes in southern section. Wise was also given grand champion sweepstakes. winning the Kellogg special prize of $100 in cash.
In the breed classes J. F. C. Finnell of Hamburg won on Reid's and on Silvermine, Henry George of West Union on Silver King, and also on miscellaneous variety. Most of this corn in the breed classes was also shown at Des Moines. The competition was very strong, and Prof, Bowman had to be called to decide the championship, which went to Finnell. He was also given championship at Des Moines on the same sample.
The exhibits in the junior show were of a uniformly high quality. The grand champion junior ear shown by Orville Garrett of Mitchellville was conceded to be the champion ear of the show.
In the ten ear class Howard Mawdsley of Burt won sweepstakes in northern section. Marion George of West Union in north central section, Orville Garrett of Mitchellville in south central section and Bernard Haagland of Essex first in southern section. He was also given championship of the state.
Vivian Trites won championship for best sample shown by a girl.
In the single ear class June McArthur of Mason City won sweepstakes in northern section; Robert Wood in north central section: Orville Garrett in south central section, and Ida Chasey in southern section. Ida Chasey won the state championship for girls. Orville Garrett won the state championship for boys. also winning the grand championship for the state. which gave him the $75 gold medal offered by the W. K. Kellogg company.
Sweepstakes for the best twenty ears of any variety went to T. O. Finnell of Hamburg.
