Full Text

FOR THE REPUBLICAN.

Mr. Editor,--Peter Pegasus says that we wrote our last piece against him. Nothing is more unfounded than a charge so foul and insolent. We had no suspicion who was the author of Holofernes. It was what might be called a random shot.

We make this declaration lest innocent persons be involved in the production, and that every liberal and candid mind may at once see that Peter Pegasus is wholly destitute of every principle which constitutes a gentleman; nor will we degrade ourselves so much as to take further notice of the calumnious puff.
