The 34th annual meeting of the Minneapolis Urban League will have as its annual dinner speaker one of the outstanding personalities of the nation, Dr. Martin Luther King, late of Montgomery, Ala., but who now headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.
Dr. King, leader of the famed Montgomery, Ala., bus boycott, is in demand internationally as a speaker who has demonstrated great leadership in the Gandhi like passive resistance area.
His conduct of the Montgomery bus boycott and his recent identification with the student passive resistance and sit-ins in the South and his quiet insistence that only through the end of segregation all over America can the United States keep its proper place in the world have made him one of the outstanding personalities in today's world.
In the south where the Boston University graduate remains, he is hated by the segregationists because his methods of peaceful resistance completely confounded the whites who have wanted to keep the Negro of the South in a semi-slave status.
King is a symbol to the students who have been demonstrating in the South. What happens in the South is the business of the rest of the country for in today's small world each of us are dependent upon each other. King's coming here to expose his views to a northern audience will help us in this state understand more fully the changing times in the race relations in the South and in the whole of America too.
We suggest that persons who want to keep abreast hear Dr. King on Thursday, April 21 at the Leamington hotel.
