Tuesday Night Fire
Destroys Tobacco

Fire of undetermined origin caused considerable damage Tuesday evening to a barn owned by Mayor W. A. Williams.

Several barns of tobacco being stored in the barn were burned and the barn itself was half destroyed.

A pony and cow, being housed in the barn, were saved.

Williams believed that the fire could have been started by a cigarette carelessly thrown away by workers in the barn on Tuesday afternoon. Fire Chief Young reported that lightning could have been the cause during the sudden electrical storm that evening.
