PHILADELPHIA, August 24.

By the Brig Success, Capt. Wm. Marshall from the Havannah, we learn the Spaniards were prosecuting their military preparations with the utmost vigor, that they had lately launched two 70 gun ships, that the Moro was finished, and they were mounting the guns, saying, that if the English came again, they would fight them at their leisure; that a Spanish 70 gun ship, ready to sail for old Spain, had her main-mast truck struck by lightning, which killed 12 men and wounded 13; and that the same clap kill'd 4 Friars who were ringing a bell in one of their churches.

The latter end of July they had a violent gale of wind, but did little damage there: Off the Matanzas they saw a sloop with jury-masts, and also a great number of cedar logs floating. They had received advice at the Havanna, that a Spanish register ship was lately accidentally burnt at La Vera Cruz, with two millions of Dollars on board.
