Under the head of Capitol Chat, the Pierre Capital says: "It is now pretty certain who will and who will not be candidates among the present occupants of state house positions. Governor Mellette will not be a candidate for re-election, but there are several who are willing to take his place. Secretary Ringsrud is a candidate for the governor's chair, and so is Auditor Taylor. Cortez Salmon will try again for state superintendent and W. W. Taylor is making a grand reach for the state treasurership again. Maj. Ruth is suspiciously silent as to whether or not he is a candidate for re-election."
