Full Text
George Oswell, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Oswell of Juneau, was recently elected to captain the football eleven of Oakland High School, Oakland, Cal., for next season. Word to this effect was received by young Oswell upon his arrival here on the City of Seattle to spend the summer vacation with his parents.
Oswell, who will graduate from the Oakland school next year, says the boys will revert to playing the American style of football next fall, after having played Rugby for the past several years. Practically all the preparatory schools and colleges in California have gone back to American football, following the action taken by Stanford University and the University of California two or three years ago.
George and one other player of the squad that will report for practice next fall are the only Oakland players who have had any experience playing the American game.
The Juneau boy got his experience in the North. He says he will try for a halfback position. George has taken on a lot of weight the past year or two and looks fit for the football fray right now.
