Thrasivulos Stavros Nikitopulos is no more. The handicap of such a name, under which a progressive young Greek has been struggling since he came to this country several years ago, was removed yesterday by order of the superior court, following a petition for a change of name, and the petitioner allowed to take the new name which he has chosen, Theodore Stavros Troy.
Very emphatically Theodore stated yesterday that he is proud of his old name, assuring the court that it is a highly honored one in the old country, and has been borne by many famous men of Greece. However, in hustling America, where time is money and everything must move at top speed, Theodore soon found that his name took too long to write, and too long to pronounce, assuming that anyone could pronounce it.
Theodore undoubtedly was sincere in stating that he is proud of his old name, but it was plain to be seen that he is prouder still of his new name, which instantly conjures up the memory of the 'Great American'' and still retains a reminder of old Greece. As Theodore Troy now, and possibly 'Teddy'' Troy later on, he can sail along the commercial paths of his new country as efficiently as any Yankee. and the change will affect a wonderful saving in ink as well as preventing friends of the young man from nearly choking themselves as they tried to call him by his old name.
