The UAW will honor on a reciprocal basis transfer of membership cards from eight more international unions without payment of an initiation or other type of entry fee, Emil Mazey, secretary-treasurer, announced.
The unions are: Aluminum Workers International Union, International Union, United Automobile Workers of America (AFL); United Brick and Clay Workers of America, Flight Engineers' International Association, Insurance Agents International Union, Metal Polishers, Buffers, Platers and Helpers International Union, Office Employees' International Union, and United Textile Workers of America.
The UAW Executive Board voted to honor transfers on a reciprocal basis from the eight Unions at a meeting on Jan. 9.
The action was taken under Article 17, Section 12 of the International UAW Constitution.
The action means, Mazey said, that individuals presenting transfer cards from any of the above-listed International Unions, in addition to those already being accepted from International Unions formerly affiliated with the CIO, shall not be required to pay an initiation fee.
Members of the UAW transferring to jobs under the jurisdiction of these other International Unions will have their transfer cards accepted in like fashion, Mazey added.
