Who's Who In Colored America Off The Press
YONKERS, N. Y. (ANP) The long looked for new edition of "Who's Who in Colored America" left the press last week with an outside cover of green and gold, and an inside pictorial layout done in sepia.
Founded in 1927, the biographical directory is now in its seventh edition. It contains 664 pages, 3,200 sketches, 640 photographs, and a table classifying those included according to the 310 vocations reported.
Each biographical sketch in the book includes for each person the date and place of birth; parents and marital status; training experience and present occupation; publications, if any; religious and political affiliation, and the outstanding contributions of the person described.
It is not presumed, however, editor, "that the book contains all the best persons or everything about such persons. Rather, it is representative of the persons who are in pivotal positions, those who are making a contribution to community and nation, those who are pioneering in new fields, and in general, those about whom other persons of affairs may occasionally want to know."
Sharing the editing with Fleming was Christian E. Burckel, a member of the publishing firm, and Calvin H. Raullerson, formerly instructor at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
The pictorial montage, symbolizing the activities of the biographees, is the work of Jay Jackson, artist of Los Angeles, Calif.
