TREATING A SYRIAN LEPER

Federal Authorities Take Up Case of George Rossi.

Washington, D. C., Aug. 8.—In a tent on a bleak mountain side in Randolph county, W. Va., near Elkins, George Rossi, the Syrian leper, who has been shunted in a box car through several states by panic-stricken health officials is existing without care of any kind.

The case finally has been brought to the attention of the United States authorities and orders have been issued that Rossi be visited and examined by a surgeon of the marine hospital service and a Syrian interpreter.

It is assumed that he had leprosy before he came here about four years ago, and that he is deportable under the immigration laws to the country whence he came.
