Full Text

A project seems to be entertained seriously in certain quarters to erect our newly acquired possessions, Alaska, into a territory. The cat under that heap of meal is so big that she can't be covered up. In that region, agent McIntire estimates that there are less than two hundred voters. The affairs of the country can as well, and better be managed by a judicious military commander. But then, there would not be a chance for a batch of impecunious and ambitious fellows to hold offices. A territorial organization would provide several very pretty sinecures.
