THE STATUE OF WASHINGTON, which was stolen by General Hunter during the Lynchburg raid in 1863, and sent to this city, where it was received as a great trophy of capture, was reinaugurated last week, at the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, in the presence of General Lee and many other distinguished visitors, and a large assemblage of citizens. An address was delivered by ex-Governor Letcher, after which General Smith, Superintendent of the Institute, made a speech to the cadets. The ceremonies were altogether of a very impressive character. A letter was read from General Grant expressing regret that he was unable to be present.
