M'LONEY GOT
THREE HUNS
Brother of Former Keokuk Man "Got"
His Men and Is Wounded In
Battle on July 6, He
Writes.
If all the soldiers in the American
army
were like
Robert
McLoney,
brother of George McLoney, at one
time manager of the Overland-Irwin
company in Keokuk, few Huns would
be left. Private McLoney writes his
parents that he "got three Germans"
in a recent raid. Wounded in the right
arm by a piece of shrapnel he was in
a base hospital under a physician's
care when he wrote the letter.
Private McLoney, who is 22 years
old, was a member of Company H,
Missouri national guards.
The following is an
excerpt
from
his letter:
"We went over the top July 6, and
I got a piece of 'sharp Nell'
in
my
right arm. I got three Germans, so I
can be satisfied. We only lost four
men, and we sure did get the Dutch.
I don't know how many we did get,
but I know I got three of them. They
sure treat us fine in the hospital.
I guess I will be out in a few days.
