The Parliament of France exhibits a degree of spirit & patriotism that would reflect honour on the Senates of Great-Britain and Ireland. In that country, they take the liberty of remonstrating against every measure that appears to be prejudicial to the community; but here the will of the Minister may be termed to be absolute, as he can, at all times, command a majority for every purpose whatever, be it ever so inimical to the interests and wishes of the people. It is, indeed, a melancholy consideration, that more animated resolves are entered into by assemblies in an arbitrary and despotic monarchy, than in countries boasting of the excellence and freedom of their constitution.
