Congress Passes Bill To
Increase Size of Coal

WASHINGTON. (AP) - The Senate Friday yielded to the House and passed a bill to increase the size of public coal land leases in Alaska to 10,240 acres.

The measure, as originally passed by the Senate, would have authorized leases up to 20,000 acres, compared to the present limit of 2,500 acres.

A Senate - House conference committee agreed to the figure in the House bill. Sen. Gruening then quickly obtained the Senate's approval without objection.

As soon as the House gives its approval to the conference agreement, the bill will go to the White House.
