Library Notes

The Glastonbury Public Library circulated a total of 2,568 books from the main library and not including schools and branches during the month of January. This included 1,400 novels, 340 books of travel, science, biography, history and the like, and 828 childrens books. Of the latter 622 were stories and 206 non-fiction. Books received at the library this week are: "Lost Horizons", "Without Armor" and "Ill Wind" all books by the author of the popular book "Good-bye Mr. Chips," James Hilton; "A House Divided" Pearl Buck. The trilogy which opened with "The Good Earth" and continued in 'Sons" is completed in "A House Divided". Here the family of Wang the Farmer reaches across the sea, and the middle portion of the novel is laid in the United States when Young Yuan attends an American College, meets American youth and New York Chinese falls in love with an American girl, and returns again to China, bewildered but courageous. "Pitcairn's Island" by Nordhoff and Hall is their latest contribution to exciting sea escapades following 'Mutiny on the Bounty" and Men Against the Sea". Also "Luck of the Road" by Sawyer; "Hide-away Island" Fox: "I Cover the Waterfront" by Max Miller, San Francisco waterfront reporter; "Private Worlds" Phyllis Bottome; "Clew of the Forgotten Murder" Kendrake: "Murder in the Opera House" Mario; Little Orvie" Booth Tarkington; "Budapest Parade Murders" Mason; "Strange Boarders of Palace Crescent" and "The Spy Paramount by Bruere and Beard.
