Wesley Craige, 55, of 315 Longworth street, admitted to Sgt. Det. James B. Hogan and Det. Lucious Gleaton the fatal stabbing of Roy Blanton, 45, of 1845 Germantown street, shortly afternoon Saturday, at 2:45.
According to the story of Mrs. Charlotte Rutledge, told to Sgt. Hogan, she returned from a doctor's office and found Blanton drunk and when she reprimanded him, he became abusive and struck her. She screamed and brought the attention of a neighbor, Louise Elder, to her rescue, and after seeing Craige and Blanton in a struggle both women left the scene of the incident.
Craige told the police officers who investigated the cutting that he was visiting the other side of the residence which is a double, and upon hearing the screaming of Mrs. Rutledge and the arguing between her and Blanton, he went around to the kitchen entrance to investigate and found Blanton beating the woman, who is crippled and under the care of her doctor. he attempted to stop him, Craige turned on him.
Craige admitted stabbing Blanton to death in the struggle with a knife to Det. Lucious Gleaton and also cutting himself with the same knife.
Craige told Gleaton that he left the scene in a taxi after the fatal cutting. Det. Gleaton apprehended Craige at his home shortly after the cutting, on Longworth street.
