Carpenters Reported Removing Physical Slots

NORMAN, Okla.—According to reports coming from the University of Oklahoma this week, carpenters were busy in the past few days tearing down the physical barriers erected last year when Negroes first enrolled in the institution. Over two score Negro students are now enrolled at Oklahoma University.

One student said when he arrived at the "Jug" last week to eat he was advised by an attendant that arrangements had been made for Negro students to eat in the main dining room. He said he went to the cafeteria and was directed to a table marked "For Colored" and was served.

SANCTION OF BOARD

Just what is the background to the sudden change in arrangement made for Negro students has not yet been determined. One person supposedly in the know stated that the action taken has the sanction of the Board of Regents.

One oracle in discussing the revolutionary change said that the action taken was done to support the position to be taken by Atty. Gen. Mac Q. Williamson, who must soon appear in the Supreme Court of the United States with his assistant to defend the action taken by the state in segregating G. W. McLaurin student at the university.
