Mildred Brewster on Trial,

The trial of Mildred Brewster for the murder of Anna Wheeler May 20, 1897, was begun before Judge Loveland Munson in the Washington county court at Montpelier Monday. This is the second time the trial of the young woman has been opened the previous trial having been stopped almost at the beginning by a motion of Miss Brewster's counsel that the indictment was irregular which raised a question upon which the full bench had to pass. It was that the presence of a stenographer in the grand jury room invalidated the indictment. The full bench decided that the indictment would stand. Nearly 100 jurors had been summoned for the trial and a large crowd of spectators were present Monday.
