Program at High School Sponsored By Rotary Club
Janice Turner won first prize in the oratorical contest sponsored by the East Hartford Rotary Club in the high school auditorium Wednesday morning. She received three dollars in War Stamps from the club. Two dollars in War Stamps went to the second place winner, Minnie Pappaceno. Other contestants were Robert Dunn and Theresa Allison.
Patriotic selections were given by the contestants, and the judges were Roger W. Driggs, Edward B. Stevens and James Harvey, all members of Rotary.
The program, which served as a junior-senior assembly, opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, after which the audience sang the National Anthem.
Two selections, Keller's American Hymn and Bright Western Land were sung by the freshman chorus. The brass quartet played the Battle Hymn of the Republic and special selections.
