Event Details
On the day of his decease, the Duke of Cumberland's body was consigned to the King's surgeon. The usual ceremony of embalming was performed, after which the royal corpse was bedecked in high style: every limb and finger bound in lawn and covered with white satin, body and face similarly bound, neck, wrists, knees, and feet ornamented with purple bows. The coffin, lined with white satin and richly ornamented, was closed for interment.
