CLEMENCY FOR VAILLANT.

French Deputies Send Petition for Pardon to President Carnot.

PARIS, Jan. 14.—Deputies Romani and Viviani, both Socialists, took to the Elysee, yesterday, the deputies' petition for clemency in the case of Auguste Vaillant, condemned to death for throwing a bomb in the Chamber. It is understood the petition will be submitted, in accordance with official procedure, to the pardons committee.

At least a fortnight must elapse between the signature of the appeal and the committee's report to President Carnot.
