New Weekly For Anchorage
(Special to The Nugget)
Alaska's newest newspaper, the Anchorage News, with a full Alaskan staff, was announced in Anchorage today with its first appearance set for January.
A weekly, tabloid-size paper, it is to be devoted to news of local and Territorial interest, according to the editors.
Norman C. Brown will edit the new weekly. Mr. Brown was editor of the Cordova Times before going to Anchorage nine years ago where he has been managing editor of the Anchorage Daily Times.
Edna Foster, on the Times editorial staff for the past two years, is announced as his assistant on the new paper.
Lester Busey, editor of the Seward Gateway until the big Seward fire destroyed the plant, and since advertising manager for the Anchorage Times, is to be advertising manager for the Anchorage News, according to the announcement.
Earl Bramble, Alaskan pressman and printer for many years, and Alvin de Julio, Anchorage printer and linotype operator for the Times before going into military service, are co-owners with Mr. Brown of the Northern Publishing Company, which will publish the Anchorage News as well as do job printing, the new company announces.
Machinery for the new plant is being installed in the American Legion hall on Third avenue, on which building the company has taken a long-term lease.
