MR. P. K. KILBOURN.—Some two or three weeks since we received information, as we supposed from a reliable source, that Mr. Kilbourn, our late associate editor, was industriously circulating reports calculated to injure our paper—as for instance, that it was about to become partisan in its character, in contempt of pledges heretofore made to the public. Under the belief that these reports were true, we inserted several paragraphs in our paper of week before last, regarding Mr. K.'s former connection with the paper, but as we have since become satisfied that the reports are not warranted by anything that he has said, we cheerfully retract whatever may have appeared in our columns derogatory to Mr. K. or his literary reputation, regretting that we should have been betrayed into any expression calculated to wound his feelings or to affect his standing as a writer, by reports which, though then believed, it now seems had no foundation in truth. We have none other than good wishes for our late associate, and shall rejoice to hear of his succeeding in whatever enterprise he may undertake.—Columbian.
