IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT SEVENTY WILL REGISTER TOMORROW IN COMMODIOUS QUARTERS ON AULTMAN.

The County High School will assemble in the new building on Aultman street in Ely Monday morning at 9 o'clock for the opening session of what now promises to be the banner year of the school up to this time. Between 60 and 70 students will present themselves for enrollment, and the organization will be effected to meet the conditions in the best possible manner, although of course some students will enter later and some changes will have to be made in the program.

The building is still lacking in several important features in spite of the efforts that have been made to put everything in readiness for the commencement of the school term. The heating plant is not fully installed, the electric lighting fixtures are not in place, and some other parts of the furnishings may be delayed a little, but the board is to be congratulated upon having done well in getting ready for occupancy a building of this size in the time that it has taken to do so. There are desks and other necessary apparatus enough in place to accommodate seventy students conveniently, with three class rooms fully furnished, besides the shorthand and commercial departments. The equipment, as far as it goes, is equivalent to that of other schools of this class, and will be brought up to a high standard as soon as the funds are available.

For the present, each student will have a desk in the assembly room, where the roll will be taken and general exercises held. This room will also be used as a recitation and study room, with a teacher in charge throughout the day. A portable blackboard has been constructed for use in this room, there being no other blackboards in place. The two large class rooms on the second floor have been furnished, and will be occupied by Miss Grace Fairchild and Mr. R. H. Wetherbee. The commercial room is equipped with twenty large commercial desks and chairs, and the shorthand practice room is equipped with two large tables and a dozen chairs. In the typewriting room there are twelve machines mounted upon suitable tables, with chairs to match. All of the class rooms are amply supplied with blackboarding, and there seems to be nothing at all lacking in any line that might add to the convenience of teachers and students.

With well equipped laboratories, manual training and domestic science rooms, and with a very fine gymnasium and athletic field, in addition to the rooms mentioned above, there are few if any schools in the state that can compete with the one in Ely in attractive features.

With the entrance of from 30 to 40 students from around the county, many of whom will be in the upper classes, the White Pine County High School will assume a position of first importance as a center of interest, and will fulfill the need for which it was organized. This is the first year that any considerable number of the outside residents of the county have shown a disposition to avail themselves of the educational advantages offered in Ely, while there are comparatively few, if any, young people being sent away this year to outside secondary schools.

The program for Monday will be of a temporary nature, but contemplates regular work through the day, with a teachers' meeting following the school session. Spanish will be added to the language courses, and special work will be given for those who desire to prepare for teaching. General science will be substituted for the special science that has been given. The state course of study will be pursued as the basis of organization, giving the individual student ample opportunity for following such a course as he desires providing it leads to creditable graduation.

Owing to the shortage of funds, and the uncertainty of attendance, there will be but four instructors in the high school at the opening of the term. After the organization is completed another assistant may be added.

A. B. Lightfoot has resigned the position of Deputy State Superintendent to take the principalship of the County High School. He needs no introduction to anyone in the schools of White Pine County, having served seven years as deputy superintendent, and the increase in attendance this year will be due largely to his personal efforts and the esteem in which he is held throughout the county. Mr. Lightfoot is a graduate from the Ferris Institute, the State Normal College, and the State University of Michigan, and has done post graduate work in the University of California. He will have charge of the English and history classes, and will assist in other class work.

Mr. R. H. Wetherbee of Topeka, Kan., a graduate from Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois, will teach Spanish and mathematics, and will have charge of the manual training the boys' athletics. He comes very highly recommended as a strong man in these lines, and was selected with special reference to the needs of the school.

Miss Grace M. Fairchild of Denver, Colorado, a graduate from the University of Colorado, will have charge of the Latin and German classes, and will give the instruction in domestic science. She will have charge of the girls' physical training and athletics. This is Miss Fairchild's third year in the school, where she has made a very important place for herself.

Miss Alice Archer of Highland Park, Michigan, a graduate from the Ferris institute, will have charge of the commercial and shorthand work of the school. This is a very popular department of the school, and in selecting Miss Archer as instructor, it is felt that the work will be brought up to the highest possible standard.
