Full Text

No business of importance was transacted in Congress on Wednesday or Thursday last, except the almost unanimous recognition, by the House, of the independence of the Spanish American Provinces. The National Intelligencer of Friday thus announces the interesting fact:

The question respecting the acknowledgment of the independence of the nations of South-America, has been determined in the affirmative in the House of Representatives, by a vote of unprecedented unanimity. We do not know that the same unanimity will be found in the Senate, but there is no doubt that the vote in that body will be decisively favorable to the measure.

(The vote in favor of the first resolution reported by the Committee on Foreign Relations, was 156—the vote against it, one only, Mr. Garrett, of Virginia. The second resolution reported by the Committee, passed unanimously!)
