TOO SLOW.

The contributions for Foreign Missions still come in too slowly—and what shall be done? Are there not some of our preachers and brethren, who, as yet, have given nothing and done nothing toward sending the gospel to the heathen. We would kindly and affectionately ask such for their own sake to enquire seriously whether they will be clear of the blood of souls when they meet the millions of Juggernaut's worshippers at the final judgment. O christian think "should one of those lost souls amid its tossings, utter forth thy name as one who might have plucked it from despair," what agonizing remorse will fill thy bosom. Ye ambassadors of our God, sent with messages of mercy and pardon to the guilty, we call on you in view of the strict account you must give to Him that sent you, immediately to make a new effort to arouse those to whom you minister, to do all they can to sustain our Missionaries in India, and to send them help. Will you now before you read any farther consider your duty, and devise some plan for future action that will cause your influence to be felt in the dark places of Orissa? O do, with hearts of agonizing feelings we implore you,

Members of our churches, and friends of Christ's precious cause,—whether your minister feels as much interested as he ought in the glorious work of missions or not, will you, who are exempt from the miseries of heathenism, and know the blessings of the gospel, will you now give another expression of your gratitude and love to Jesus Christ by contributing something to send to our Missionaries in India? While you can stay with friends and relatives in your native land, and enjoy the temporal comforts that surround you, have you hearts that will suffer you to let our dear brethren and sisters that have nobly sacrificed country, kindred, friends, and the blessings of civilized life, for the gospel's sake, we repeat it, have you hearts that can let them suffer, and you extend no relief. No. brethren, we do not. we cannot do you the injustice to harbor such an opinion. We believe the reason that you have aided no more is because you have not prayed as much for our Missionaries as you ought, you have not considered your duty as much as you ought, and possibly the claims the heathen have on your prayers and the goods over which God has made you steward, have not hitherto been presented to you in their right light. Awake then, dear brethren, awake to active, self-denying labors for the heathen. If you are poor and have nothing to spare, examine your expenses, and see if you cannot retrench. Are there not some things, that you allow yourself to enjoy, which, tho' pleasant and lawful, you might dispense with at least a part of the time, and give the savings to send the gospel to the dying millions of India? Are there not some of you who have hitherto thought yourselves unable to do any thing for missions, that habitually use coffee or tea, and perhaps tobacco? O brethren, remember the time is near when you will rejoice with joy unspeakable for all the self-denial you practice now. We ask you in love, will not every one give something immediately. Say now, what you will do. And reader, what hast thou done? And what wilt thou do? Delay not! Delay not! Reflect that while you delay one day an idolater may go into another world just one day before your offering arrives at his solitary dwelling.
