Youth Leads Nation In Unemployment Totals

The Census Bureau said today that about 2,000,000 of the nation's unemployed are the young people between 14 and 24.

Based on a 5 per cent sample of the 1940 census, the bureau said the 5,110,270 persons seeking work at the time (excluding relief workers) included 963,028 between 14 and 19; 1,035,474 between 20 and 24; 1,800,567 between 25 and 44; 1,157,428 between 45 and 64, and 153,733 persons 65 or over.

Males totaled 3,844,732 and females 1,265,538. Whites numbered 4,493,143 and non-whites 617,128.
