RICHMOND, Va. - Adele Addison, gifted young soprano of New York Opera fame, will sing in the Chapel at Virginia Union University at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. On her fifth nationwide concert tour, Miss Addison will appear in Richmond under the sponsorship of the Virginia Union University Department of Music.
A newcomer to the New York City Opera Company, Miss Addison made her debut there last season as Mimi in La Boheme and it was hailed as "a debut of consequence, both vocally and dramatically." This season she repeated her performance with the company in New York and Boston, as well as appearing in several exciting concert and recital dates.
Miss Addison is a native of Springfield, Massachusetts. She attended high school there and was graduated from the Westminster Choir College in New Jersey with a bachelor of music degree. Soon afterwards, she won a scholarship to the Berkshire Music Center and after two more years of intensive work, she made her recital debut in Boston, in 1949. Critics agreed that the Addison debut was the outstanding one of this season. The young soprano was chosen as soloist for seven appearances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as well as leading soprano with the New England Opera Company.
