ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIEST ARRESTED, SWINDLE CHARGE

ROME, March 9.—(AP)—Italian police today announced the arrest of an unfrocked Roman Catholic Priest, 42-year-old Eduardo Prettner. He is a former keeper of the Archives for the Vatican Secretariat of State.

Police had been investigating the disappearance of $450,000 worth of jewels in connection with his flight from the house of arrest in the Vatican last Saturday.

Today's announcement says mobile squads found Prettner in the home of two women in a Rome suburb. Important documents also are said to have been seized. The women are identified as the wife and daughter of a former General of the Fascist Militia.

The Holy See unfrocked the Priest after his flight in order that the police might arrest him without violating the Lateran Treaty. A Vatican announcement said Prettner had confessed to many swindles and falsehoods.
