Big Pay Day Lands 64 In County Jail
Big pay day resulted in a big weekend for local law enforcement officers. Deputy sheriffs, constables and state police booked 64 at the county jail for various offenses from murder to intoxication.
W. G. Branham, elderly Wayne county produce dealer, sentenced himself to serve a six-month jail sentence on which he had been placed on probation by Judge Ferguson. Sentence was imposed a year or more ago when Branham confessed to carrying a pistol. He was booked on a drunk charge by Deputy Sheriffs Andy Marcum and Dave Johnson.
Also arrested for intoxication was Harmon Gilman, erstwhile one man tornado, who a year or more ago devastated Trace creek while on a rampage. He served three jail sentences for destroying property of Trace creek residents and was only recently released.
Henry Blankenship, charged with intoxication and resisting arrest, was booked by Deputy Sheriff Otis Sizemore and Constables Joe Phillips and Tom Chafin.
Morgan Cline, charged with drunk driving, was booked by Constables Troy Messer and Dave Sheppard.
Jim B. Chapman and John Maynard were booked for investigation by Constables Messer and Sheppard.
Troy Evans, charged with leaving the scene of an accident, was booked by Constable Hubert Davis and Deputy Sheriff John Adair. Evans, driving a truck, is alleged to have kept on going after colliding with the car of Lyle Marcum near Delbarton.
Roy Smith, of McCarr, was booked for reckless driving by State Police Corporal S. A. Clinton and Trooper Martin B. Salyers.
W. R. Osteen, allegedly AWOL, was booked by Deputy Sheriff Dewey Ferrell.
Curtis Vance was booked on a Logan county non-support warrant by Deputy Sheriffs Dave Johnson and Andy Marcum.
