For several days past there has been gathered together in Council, in New York City, a large number of Ministers. The Convention is called the "Evangelical Alliance." Last Thursday the meeting got into a terrible fuss about the doctrine or subject of Church and State. An Episcopal Minister from London read a paper in favor of the union of Church and State, and the Rev. Mr. Curry, a Baptist Minister from Alabama, (formerly a member of Congress,) read a paper against the union of Church and State. Consequently there was a big fuss among the men who profess to be christians, and the crowd was dismissed to prevent trouble and probably a fight.
