NATCHEZ, August 8.

In consequence of a letter received by his excellency govr. Claiborne, by mail from the city of Washington, confirming the very agreeable and interesting information of the cession of New Orleans and the whole of Louisiana (as Spain possessed the same) to the United States, and which his excellency was pleased to communicate to the mayor of this city—a handbill was issued by the mayor this afternoon, communicating that important event to the citizens, and requesting them "to illuminate their houses in testimony of their joy on the occasion." This request was honored with the most enthusiastic attention, and our city this evening, made as brilliant a display as probably was ever exhibited on any occasion. A detachment of the Natchez company of artillery, also paraded, and fired a salute of twenty rounds from their field piece.
