Full Text

CALHOUN AND TEXAS.—The following is from the New Orleans Bulletin of the 11th inst. The Bulletin has been Whig; but gives signs of defection on the annexation question, and will most probably turn out for Calhoun. The Tropic (Whig) says there were few Whigs at the meeting.

'One of the largest public meetings ever convened in this city was held last evening in the Arcade. The objects of the meeting, as stated in the call pursuant to which it was held, were to promote the proposed re-incorporation of Texas into the Federal Union, and to nominate the Hon. John C. Calhoun for the presidency. The venerable Gen. Plauche presided, assisted by a number of the most respectable citizens of the place [of both political parties] as Vice Presidents.'
